“I started SaaS companies in 2013 and 2021. Here’s how things have changed.”

Ravi Parikh co-founded a product analytics company called Heap in 2013 and then in 2021 co-founded a developer platform called Airplane. He shares what he has observed as being different in SaaS startups now as opposed to nearly ten years ago.

Some of Ravi’s observations are unsurprising and predictable but well-stated and important:

“There are way, way more SaaS companies, and getting initial traction is harder… Product MVPs have a much higher degree of polish, and companies wait much longer to launch.”

There are many more lessons in this article, but in the end, it seems the more things change, the more they stay the same:

“Getting to product-market fit isn’t really any easier or better understood, and it’s really the only thing that matters in the initial stages.”
