Let’s Encrypt recently posted a progress update, and results so far are impressive. They’ve crossed 5 million certificates since December 2015 and have helped push HTTPS on the web from 39.5% to 45%. It’s going to be harder to get to 100%, but I think it will be a major win once the 50% mark is reached and the majority is officially HTTPS (by at least their measurements).
