Mailchimp has a new styleguide, but it’s not for code. It’s for writing, and it is awesome.
They share it both for internal employees to utilize and for external companies to steal. And steal we should. They go in-depth to show how to write in a friendly, respectful manner. Their advice spans all kinds of content types and situations:
- Blog
- Newsletter
- Legal
- Technical
- Social media
- Accessibility
- Writing about people
- Voice and tone
- And more
Seriously, this document rules. I’ve had a rough document of my own for certain things, especially for how I create consistency for certain phrases and words, but Mailchimp’s is so good and thorough for a general styleguide that I will likely use this as a primary reference from now on.
