If you are a WordCamp organizer or just generally interested in WordCamp/event planning then David Bisset’s “Mega-Review” of WordCamp Miami (which happened last month) might be worth a read. It’s quite detailed, and some interesting observations from one of the largest annual WordCamps.
The WordPress project, software, and community are equally important. They all play a role in ensuring growth, progress, and success. A sizeable economy of users, builders, and business owners depends on it. That’s why staying informed is vital. And so much of the reporting and learning opportunities come from unofficial sources. We need more people within the WordPress community who are interested in writing and more places to amplify their voices.
Gutenberg 4.6 is out with a relatively shorter changelog than in the past. Mostly browser related fixes (for IE11, Edge, drag-and-drop functionality), an improvement for block preview styling, and various other tweaks and fixes. This “what’s new” update has been noted as the “final” one, so we are close. WordPress 5.0 RC2 was also released….
John James Jacoby released the initial version of BerlinDB, a “collection of PHP classes and functions that aims to provide an ORM-like experience and interface to WordPress database tables.” John touched on these concepts in his talk at WordCamp Europe about advanced database management for WordPress plugins. 🔌
