If you were at WordCamp US last year, you might have noticed Google’s presence in the sponsor area and the mention of Tide. Now Alberto Medina, Developer Advocate at Google, has stated that “Google is also actively engaged and looking for expert WordPress developers to support and accelerate success of the WordPress ecosystem.”
Michelle Robbins summarizes Google’s intentions to “speed up” WordPress as well. With WordPress nearing 30% of the web and Google making page speed a factor in search engine results, their combined efforts will be significant in 2018 and beyond.
It’s really good to see Google stepping up to be a bigger part of the WordPress landscape. They have tremendous resources, and that they are looking to bringing on dedicated engineers to work at Google, just on WordPress, is a big deal.
