I love a good developer rant, especially if it involves the WordPress admin. Jeff Starr from DigWP pleads to stop ruining the WordPress admin area with popups, admin notices, and other items that we’re all too familiar with. Jeff offers some tips that might help if you’re drowning in a UX mess, but it boils down to this:
If you are a WordPress developer: respect the software you are working with.
If you are a WordPress user: understand that WordPress is designed to be simple, fast, and easy to use.
Jeff is correct that one thing at stake here is the integrity of WordPress. With the current way many are treating admin notices, that integrity is on shaky ground. I stand by my support of an API to support a style like Barry Kooij’s Admin Notices plugin.
