Today I had the chance to explain to one of our users why a feature was not added to WooCommerce core, but released as a separate extension. The people who do not use extra features can benefit of a faster and less code bloated plugin. When you do need the extra features, there will be extensions to add these features.
Shifter is a “serverless hosting solution for WordPress.” According to the website, it “seamlessly transforms your site into a series of static HTML files,” and they aim to be both the generator and the host of the generated files. It’s certainly an interesting approach, and appears pretty MoveableType-esque. They are currently seeking beta signups.
The Creator Economy owes a lot to WordPress, but that doesn’t mean WordPress is valued or even understood by Creators as an open source project and community. Are the stories we tell and the words we use compelling to newcomers and the younger generations we need to succeed us? Is the story and language that got WordPress where it is adequate to take it where it wants to go?
