Lara Hazard Owen reports on Nieman Lab about the new Wikitribune, a project by Jimmy Wales (Wikipedia founder) to, “combat fake news.” This project, because it’s a wiki-based concept, got me thinking about what role a platform plays in the news creation process.
I once read about how every CMS is an editorial decision, or something along those lines. I wish I could find it. I don’t have any answer to my question, but I do think it’s fascinating that a low barrier to entry for publishing makes “fake news” easier to make. On one end of the spectrum, that’s fantastic because more people can get into the news publishing business. On the other end, there are obviously consequences.
