Post Status Code of Conduct
Updated January 29, 2025
1. Purpose
Post Status is committed to providing a friendly, safe, and welcoming environment for all, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, disability, ethnicity, religion, age, caste, social class, preferred operating system, programming language, text editor, or any other characteristic.
This code of conduct outlines our expectations for member behavior as well as the consequences for unacceptable behavior.
We invite all participants to help us realize a safe and positive experience for everyone.
2. Scope
We expect all Post Status participants (members, sponsors, volunteers, speakers, attendees, and other guests) to abide by this Code of Conduct on Post Status Slack and online events organized by or in partnership with Post Status.
3. Mutual Respect
We strive for Post Status to be a place where conversations can take place respectfully, even when disagreements occur. Name-calling, harassment, and misconduct of any kind will not be tolerated. We ask that you handle yourselves with professionalism and decorum, even when conversations are heated and disagreements arise. For example, frame disagreements as opportunities to learn, avoid personal attacks, and focus on the ideas rather than the individual presenting them. Violators may be banned from Slack, membership, and all our online events.
4. Expected Behavior
- Be considerate, respectful, and collaborative.
- Refrain from demeaning, discriminatory, or harassing behavior and speech.
- Be mindful of your fellow participants. Alert Post Status administrators if you notice a dangerous or unwelcoming situation or someone in distress.
- Engage constructively and supportively in ways that align with your ability and comfort.
- Realize that Post Status is an international community and that English is not everyone’s first language.
5. Unacceptable Behavior
Unacceptable behaviors include intimidating, harassing, abusive, discriminatory, derogatory, or demeaning conduct by Post Status participants on Slack or at online events.
Harassment includes: offensive verbal comments related to gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, and disability; inappropriate use of nudity and/or sexual images in public spaces (including Post Status Slack DM’s between community members); deliberate intimidation; harassing photography or recording; sustained disruption of talks or other events and unwelcome (sexual) attention.
6. Consequences of Unacceptable Behavior
Anyone in the Post Status community spaces, whether in Post Status Slack or at a Post Status online event, will not tolerate unacceptable behavior.
Anyone asked to stop unacceptable behavior is expected to comply immediately.
Unacceptable behavior will result in actions deemed appropriate by Post Status administrators, including warnings, temporary suspensions, or permanent expulsion from Post Status spaces without refund.
7. Are you a witness to or subject to unacceptable behavior?
If you are subject to unacceptable behavior, notice that someone else is being subject to unacceptable behavior, or have any other concerns, please notify a Post Status administrator as soon as possible.
All reports will be handled confidentially to the extent possible. Post Status administrators will review and respond promptly, and actions will be taken based on the severity of the issue.
8. Contact information
Michelle Frechette and Joost de Valk are the administrators of our Slack and all public spaces of Post Status. You can directly message either of them in Post Status Slack or use our general contact form.
