Aaron Campbell, WordPress Security Team lead, explains why the open web matters. With the internet “now an integral part of people’s lives and even entire economies,” Aaron notes how seriously we should take threats to net neutrality.
I share Aaron’s concerns about closed systems like Facebook or Wix: “When another company owns the platform you rely on, what happens when your goals or needs diverge from theirs? Companies controlling the dissemination of information is dangerous.”
On a similar note, I also enjoyed Brandon Kraft thoughts on how he is planning on pushing the WordPress ecosystem to build up the “new open web” even more. Brandon states the “hard part is keeping the end user in mind.”
Reading posts like this helps solidify my choice of using an open platform like WordPress where I can.
