The always enjoyable Jay Hoffmann‘s entries on The History Of The Web deserves mention again this week with a great little piece on what AJAX stands for and how it came to exist.
Asynchronous Javascript and XML (shortened to Ajax) was effectively given birth thanks to GMail. The implications were enormous. As Jay writes, “Ajax showed a lot of developers that the web wasn’t just about documents. The web could be used to build applications.” 📱
