The discussions between WooThemes and Stripe that ended up with the Stripe payment gateway being free for WooCommerce seem to go a little farther than the extension. The WooThemes website is now powered by Stripe checkout as well, including automatic renewals. Auto-renewals are new at WooThemes, and they had been running on PayPal only (not accepting credit cards) since their hack in mid-2014.
