The new CRUD classes in WooCommerce will be a huge help for moving the plugin forward. In the future, Woo will deprecate existing methods for grabbing data the traditional WordPress way, in favor of very specific WooCommerce-centric functions, so that they can more easily adapt and change, while preventing backward-compatibility breaking changes. However, it could be a bit painful in the mid-term, and you should check out their update on the changes if you do any custom WooCommerce development at all.
