A recent theme review team meeting concluded that they would accept theme submissions that require the WordPress REST API. The move is out of the ordinary because typically themes that require a particular plugin are not accepted.
This is a good and logical step forward for the theme directory to benefit the REST API. I’m glad to see the team with a forward thinking step, and I’m excited to see what folks do with the opportunity.
