Oops. As seen on a blog called Tech Central, a South African province seems to have spent around $15 million on a new website that turns out to be a slightly customized Themeforest theme. I’ve got no problem with people spending serious money on WordPress sites, but this is ridiculous. When you get into millions of dollars, any website better have some serious design consideration, great custom content, top notch servers, fantastic maintenance plans, and much more. This just makes WordPress in enterprise look bad in general, which is a shame. The Hacker News discussion is depressing, too. h/t Chris Wallace.

This is extremely depressing. Part of the reason I started using WordPress is that it has the potential to get non-technical users out of the clutches of big web development agencies. To see it used instead to generate huge amounts of cash in an unscrupulous and unjust manner is really awful 🙁
