Big Claims Return in WP Engine’s Legal Fight With Automattic
- WP Engine has refiled six legal claims against Automattic and Matt Mullenweg, continuing the high-stakes dispute between major WordPress players.
- The 175 page amended complaint comes after the court’s ruling last month that dismissed claims of attempted extortion and trademark misuse, but allowed WP Engine to address shortcomings in others.
- The new filing brings back claims like attempted monopolization, illegal tying, and violations of both the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act and the Lanham Act.
- Discovery in the case is set to close next month with a jury trial scheduled for February 2027.
Gmail is Ending Support for POP and Gmailify
- Starting in January 2026, Gmail will no longer offer the “check mail from other accounts” feature that allowed users to download email from other email accounts via POP.
- Gmailify, which enabled Gmail features like spam protection and inbox organization for third-party accounts, will also be discontinued.
- IMAP will still be available for external accounts, but with fewer integration features than before.
- Google will continue to allow forwarding third-party emails to Gmail and using “Send mail as,” but forwarded emails may encounter spam or deliverability challenges.
- Google has published guides for adjusting workflows, adding external accounts via IMAP, and migrating enterprise email data into Google Workspace if you need them.
