Longreads is a popular term and hashtag for, well, long reads. Many publishers pride themselves in in-depth articles aimed to capture a reader for a significant period of time.
Such stories are quite popular amongst journalistic and hyper-attentive-news-addict circles. The actual website Longreads has over 125,000 Twitter followers, and has just been acquired by Automattic. Ranaan Bar-Cohen discusses the acquisition on the WordPress.com blog.
According to Business Week, “a Longreads subscription costs $3 a month and gives members daily recommendations; the weekly email is free.” Longreads founder Mark Armstrong also tells Business Week that the acquisition will not impact the format for aggregation of stories by the site’s staff.
