Hurry Up and Wait
There is so much in life that careens at breakneck speed. And so much waiting for other things to happen or arrive.
WordPress and all that is part of it feels that way, too. I applied to speak at WordCamp Asia back in the fall. And although I know the team worked efficiently, it still felt like ages to learn I was selected as a speaker. (It wasn’t ages, but it felt that way). But now it’s only 3 weeks until I get on a plane and time is going SO FAST! (It isn’t, but it feels that way).
Last week I moderated probably close to 600 photos in the WordPress Photo Directory during a 1-week event WordPress Photo Festival organized by the folks in Kerala, India. And the comment arose (more than once) that the moderators weren’t moderating quickly enough. People wanted to upload more photos and couldn’t until the 5 they had submitted were either approved or declined.
And I get it. It was a “hurry up and wait” situation.
I’ve been on both sides of the equation. I’ve worked in arenas where change happened slowly (academia), and where things had to move quickly (food service). I’ve come to appreciate waiting, no matter how difficult it may be.
