Embedded chat options for live events on WordPress sites have always been tough. Podcasts often have a live channel, via something like embedded IRC, Tlk.io or Google Hangouts. None of them are really great.
I was intrigued to come across Shop Talk’s new live chat option, which is powered by a simple utility called Chatpen. Chatpen is hosted on CodePen and is a React + Firebase app. It looks really slick, and could be a great option. If Shop Talk is using it, it’s probably fairly stable; they get a lot of live traffic.
