Ethan Marcotte offers a reminder for designing website and applications, to keep in mind not everyone has super fast wifi. Even those that do at home don’t always when they travel and visit your site on a mobile device, especially outside the US. He recommends thinking of three classes of devices:
Baseline devices: Think older BlackBerrys, outdated iOS devices, and anything running Android 2.x.
“Fringe” devices: like handheld game consoles, Kindles, smart TVs or smart watches.
“Top-shelf” devices: Modern phones and tablets.
Any time I have 3G or worse — usually inside massive concrete buildings — I want to throw my phone against the wall, until I realize that I would fall over dead without its constant warm embrace.
