If you ever wanted to know what hardware makes a large site like Stack Overflow tick, then this “behind the scenes” look will be of interest. Lots of pictures that I would imagine only an IT person would love.
I remember seeing Jeff Atwood post about decommissioning the earliest servers of SO, and it’s amazing how lean they ran using dedicated servers. It’s certainly not for everyone though.
