For so long, people wanted to get their hands on O2, the long promised successor to P2. Alas, O2 ran out of oxygen at Automattic, and is no longer a focus for the company.
As noted by Sarah Gooding at WP Tavern, the GitHub O2 repo was announced by Kevin Conboy at WordCamp Denver.
It’s a shame; if they’d done this sooner, a lot of people could’ve helped Automattic drive the project forward. Now it feels a lot like, “here you go, we’re done with it.”
I hear another, similar, project may be in the works by another company — and maybe that one will have a more promising future. The codename is similar but named after an element not quite so heavy as oxygen.
