Iain Poulson has written a nice tutorial summarizing five different ways to sync uploads / media across WordPress environments. This is a common problem, and he approaches the solutions using different methodologies, including via FTP (least preferred), rsync, Migrate DB Pro, a clever .htaccess trick, and WordPress filters. I love seeing how people tackle problems differently, and his 2-5 options are all quite nice.
