WordCamp San Francisco, WordCamp Europe, and Pressnomics are all gearing up. But even if you can’t make one of these, don’t be disappointed, there is likely an event near you as well.
WordCamp San Francisco
WCSF will be July 26th – 28th. They put tickets on sale yesterday, and they are selling very fast. You’ll probably want to buy a ticket today if you want one at all. I attended WCSF last year for the first time, and it was an incredible experience. If you haven’t visited Northern California before, and love WordPress, then this one is a no-brainer. Many of the smartest people in our industry will be there.
WordCamp Europe
WordCamp Europe is in The Netherlands, October 5th – 7th, and is going to have around 900 people attend. The level of expertise at this WordCamp is going to be insane. I’ve never been to Europe, but many of my “internet friends” in the WordPress community will be at this event. If you can at all afford to get to The Netherlands in October, I bet you’ll be satisfied that you did. This will likely be the biggest WordCamp to date.
Pressnomics
And Pressnomics 2013 will be October 17th – 19th in lovely Arizona. Pressnomics is a conference, “for those that power the WordPress economy.” It won’t be the biggest conference of the year, but it’s bound to be the one with the highest ratio of influential community members. Business owners and influential speakers from the WordPress ecosystem and other fields will enlighten attendees with their business experience during this conference. Those that attended Pressnomics last year (the first of its kind), came away praising the quality of the conference itself and the relationships they gained from it. If you make your living with WordPress, this may be the best conference in the world for you to attend.
An event near you
Can’t get to one of these? Well, the wonderful thing about WordPress is that there is likely an event near you this year. I know that I want to attend all three of these, but likely will only make one if I’m lucky. It’s pretty expensive to be a world traveler. Fortunately, some of these events (like WCSF) will have livestream tickets, which makes the sessions available to just about anyone.
There are also WordCamps all over the world. We have one in Birmingham, AL in August, for instance. Not to mention the thousands of active Meetup groups. Meetups can often be your best chance for one-on-one time with other community members.
So, be sure to get involved with your WordPress community, local and abroad. And don’t be surprised if you get new contracts or even a full time job out of it in time. But you will definitely make new friends, and learn more about our favorite software.
