The release of the WordPress.com Desktop app (codenamed Calypso) is now on Windows and Linux in addition to Mac. You can now use the app anywhere, and they’ve open sourced the desktop app itself. The internals of the app were already open source, but this is the actual desktop wrapper code, that uses Electron.
Enter the wp-desktop
nomenclature, natch.
Joe and I spent some time in the latest podcast (publishing soon) talking about the impact of Calypso and how it will potentially help drive a whole slew of other hosted solutions and custom site administration experiences. What Automattic is doing here is important, and I hope that that succeed and pulling in other developers interested in this kind of code and functionality.
