Much more interesting than a regular Jetpack upgrade is how (as I predicted) Jetpack is bringing “professional themes” to the plugin, effectively making it a full-on marketplace. I am very, very interested in how that’s going to work, specifically in light of the WordPress plugin directory rules and other potential conflicts.
Automattic has stopped allowing submissions of WordPress.com commercial themes, according to a note sent to their current partners. This is on top of giving full access to commercial themes for business plans and above. It’s my understanding that revenue for (at least some) .com theme shops has been way, way down.
