iThemes releases Exchange, a WordPress eCommerce plugin

exchange

iThemes has just released Exchange on the WordPress plugin repository. They’ve been working for some time their new WordPress eCommerce plugin. They opened up a beta for some users about a month ago.

A few days ago, I checked it out for the first time. I was late on trying the beta, and I found the plugin to be pretty polished. Known knowns, known unknowns, and unknown unknowns

rumsfeld-unknown-unknowns

There are known knowns; there are things we know that we know.
There are known unknowns; that is to say, there are things that we now know we don’t know.

I have to say, I’m really impressed Envato is going through with this decision, as it’s no doubt going to be very difficult to adjust the mindset of almost every author on ThemeForest.

I recommend checking out all of the new WordPress theme requirements, but I’ll list a few:

Properly using wp_reset_postdata(), wp_reset_query() and variable naming in queries

Understanding how to alter the main query and how to create custom queries in WordPress are two essentials for WordPress developers. You should familiarize yourself with a few things right away:

You also need to watch WordPress Lead Developer Andrew Nacin talk about WP_Query in depth in this WordPress.tv Presentation. Seriously, take notes. Follow the slides. Repeat parts multiple times. It might be the best hour you’ll ever spend learning about WordPress.

Now, let me add a couple relatively unimportant points (in comparison) to the above resources on querying with WordPress.
